Janusz Wawrowski & Mischa Kozłowski – Chopin Inspirations / new project

Frédéric Chopin is a composer who constantly fascinates. Despite the passing of time and a changing world, his music is still relevant. Janusz Wawrowski and Mischa Kozlowski reach for the works of Grieg, Paderewski, Noskowski and Sarasate to go back in time and show how Chopin, beloved by all of us, inspired in the 19th and 20th centuries.

BreastFit – Women’s breasts, men’s business!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

On this occasion, together with my students, we performed at a conference under the title: BreastFit – Women’s breasts, men’s business! The campaign, which includes the POWER OF COMMUNITY 2023 calendar, is meant to make us aware of the importance of taking care of not only our own health, but also of others. Let’s take care of our mothers, sisters, wives and colleagues. Let’s remind them how important preventive examinations are. It can save lives.

Buying the “Power of community” calendar and gifting it to a woman dear to you will be a symbol of concern for her health, and the proceeds a donation that each of us will add as support for those with advanced breast cancer. I encourage you to buy the calendar.

You can donate here.

Brand new PHOENIX extra’s coming out soon… Stay tuned!

Warner Classics is about to publish brand new recording of chamber pieces by Ludomir Różycki and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Those recordings are complementing the PHOENIX album, on which rediscovered Violin Concerto by Ludomir Różycki is paired with Tchaikovsky’s one. Różycki wrote his piece in 1944, in occupied Warsaw and, due to war events, the piece remained forgotten for many years after. –> for details click here

The idea of publishing the violin repertoire of the forgotten Polish composer juxtaposed with Tchaikovsky, whose pieces are one of the most famous and often played of all times was raised by Janusz himself:

“War brings damage on every aspect of life. There are no winners, just loses. Searching for lost pieces, rediscovering them, reconstructing and popularizing is a great passion of mine. Being able to bring the PHOENIX Violin Concerto by Różycki back to life proves that after dark always comes light. We must remember this, especially in difficult times”.

The new releases show the chamber repertoire of both composers:

  • L. Różycki – Nocturne in F sharp minor Op. 30 No. 2
  • P.I. Tchaikovsky – Melodie Op. 42 No. 3

Janusz Wawrowski – violin
Mischa Kozłowski – piano

Soon available on all major streaming platforms!

Special Symphonic Concert

Inter arma silent Musae; although, since 24 February 2022, Cicero’s words have again acquired an ominous context, the world of culture and people of good will are asking themselves whether the muses must really fall silent in the face of war. In the dramatic current circumstances, the artists of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and the Warsaw Philharmonic are making an extremely important gesture.

On 21 April 2022, the Concert Hall of the Warsaw Philharmonic will be hosting an exceptional event. The musicians of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra will be playing in a Special Symphonic Concert. Under the baton of Luigi Gaggero, they will be performing works by leading Ukrainian composers: Maxim Berezovsky, Myroslav Skoryk and Boris Lyatoshynsky. The outstanding Polish violinist Janusz Wawrowski will embellish the programme with his interpretations of works by Henryk Wieniawski.

For the people of Ukraine, the ongoing war has cast a shadow over all areas of life, including cultural activities. In a gesture of solidarity with Ukrainian artists, European institutions are showing their support by inviting musicians to their facilities. The Warsaw concert will launch the Orchestra’s tour, which will also take in the Kulturpalast in Dresden, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Berlin Philharmonic and Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.

It should be emphasised that the Kiev Symphony Orchestra has received permission to leave its war-torn country thanks to this exceptional initiative. This will be the Orchestra’s first performance since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, preceded by a few days’ rehearsals at the Concert Hall on Jasna Street and at Polish Radio. So this is a unique, unprecedented project, the musical and wider value of which is difficult to compare to any other undertaking.

The Special Symphonic Concert on 21 April at the Warsaw Philharmonic is an incredibly important and resonant event, the significance of which cannot be overestimated. It also manifests our real, strong and tangible support for Ukraine. And we wait in hope – along with the whole of the civilised world – for the muses to be heard in Kyiv once more.
